I am Buzzing!

My weekend was fabulous, full of sewing and fun which isn’t always the combination that ends my week! Saturday morning’s creativity with Sally was lovely and I look forward to another ‘trade off’ soon. Between the copious cups of tea, biscuits and teacakes we produced two beautifully covered notebooks and one bejeweled insect. Unfortunately, my photo does not do justice to the sheer majesty of my beady bee. It’s amazing what some wire, coloured beads and a bit of time can result in. And, yes this bug has bitten me! My next attempt will be a delightful, miniature gecko so watch this space for a pic! The fun part was courtesy of my six year old who, amongst other activities managed a staggering 15 mile bike ride with his dad yesterday. Where was I? I was in the car listening to music and hand-sewing some Valentine favours whilst waiting for the pub to open so that I could enjoy my needlework alongside a yummy latte. Silly me though, I didn’t factor in Sunday opening times so my eagerly awaiting 11 o’clock turned into counting the minutes to midday. My heart leapt as the numbers changed from 11:59 and just as

Something for the Weekend

My tidying/sorting and condensing duties are nearly complete and I’m feeling virtuous! Saying ‘Goodbye’ this week to a whole black sack full of scraps (which are being re-homed) proved emotional so its time for a treat methinks. But, what can I do that won’t cause me to create replacement scraps so soon, after all I must consider my former workroom companions feelings! Think Beck, think….got it!!! I’m spending Saturday morning with Sally, a lovely lady who is talented in all areas of art & craft. She has sewn the most wonderful Union Jack in cross stitch and used it to front a passport case, but it seems a tad bulky. We’re going to adjust it to make it a much envied, more slimline accessory and by way of a skills trade she is going to show me how to make a bumble bee with beads. Am I safe to be let loose with a new craft? Frankly it is a big, fat NO, but I’m the queen of justification so I’m looking at this as a way to accessorize my Tall Amy creations in the future. Convinced? Me neither! Whatever you’re up to over the weekend, enjoy and be safe,

Putting it Off!

I’m procrastinating and finding all sorts of things to do instead of what I should be tackling today. I know it’s got to be done, but I don’t ever look forward to it, enjoy it or, despite what my husband says, feel better after it. What can have got me in such a bother on a Monday I hear you cry – well, and believe me this is a BIG confession – I have an untidy, overflowing scrap material box! There, I’ve said it but do I feel empowered by my honesty? No, in fact it’s the opposite, that sinking feeling of the inevitable. Over the weekend I made good in roads with the fabric ‘bolting’ but today I’m actually going to sort the bits that can go to other good homes, be it the local Scrap Store or (please whisper this next bit) the b – i – n. Condensing my ‘ooh, I can use that to make a….’ stash means I will almost be ready to move out of my home workroom to my new (to me anyway) Studio, which is 5 minutes down the road. I know should be celebrating the extra space to help me organise, and

A Sunny, Sewing Friday

We are having a rare spot of sunshine this morning, in fact it’s almost too nice to be working, but the weekend is my time for family fun so back to the machine I go! Today I’m going to be finishing off a couple of orders and will then start to sort my fabrics. I’ve been lucky enough to get hold of a number of fabric bolt ‘middles’ from Stephanie at The Little Fabric Bazaar. I know these are just cardboard, but I’m such a sewing ‘saddo’ that they are causing great excitement in the Tall Amy camp as they will allow me to give some semblance of order to my workroom! Enjoy whatever you’re up to this weekend. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to you, B x

Welcome to 2013!

Belated (but not diluted) Happy New Year wishes to Tall Amy customers old, new and future! Sitting here in the sunshine (yes you read this correctly we have sunshine in Devon!) writing my first blog of the year is exciting as I have just had my website training with Jason of One Bright Spark! Thanks to him I can now keep you posted on what’s happening in Tall Amy’s life. A bit about the past – the lead up to Christmas was fun as I took Tall Amy to a number of fayres. I hope that the items bought as presents gave pleasure to all concerned, I certainly enjoyed making each one! On to the future – I have had a break over the holiday period but am now ready, with rested fingers and raring to go! The year has got off to a flying start with a number of orders which I am currently working on and LOTS of new ideas. These are in the ‘thinking through’ phase and I will be asking for members of TAEF (you know who you are) and readers alike to assist with the second phase of ‘what do you think?’ before too long so please keep

The birth of Tall Amy Bags online

Well, I can hardly believe that I am blogging at the time that the Tall Amy website is being launched. It has been a rollercoaster year with the speedy progression from a cursory look at a book to going ‘cyber’ with the site.  2012 has flown past and to my delight my creations are touching the hearts of those that are buying them. I thoroughly enjoy making each bag and am looking forward to sharing them with visitors to the website. Please feel free to let me know your thoughts and ideas as these are the lifeblood of Tall Amy!
